Chief buildings color chart questions beside alternative finishes
A chief buildings color chart search is a finish question, not proof that this desk sells that brand. Ask the quoting supplier for the coating system, color code and warranty that apply to the panels being priced.
Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings
Inquiry option only. Dimensions, coatings and availability are confirmed after the brief.
Steel Warehouses, Workshops & Hangars
Inquiry option only. Dimensions, coatings and availability are confirmed after the brief.
No inquiry option matches that filter. Send the building brief and name the use, span and destination.
How to read a finish and frame option
Color is one line in a larger specification. Record the panel profile, substrate, coating class and interior finish, then ask whether the sample matches the production coil for that order. A printed chart from a brand search does not transfer to an alternative supplier. The quoting factory should name the standard it uses for the coating and the building component the chart covers.
Geometry still controls the quote. Write length, width, eave height, roof slope, bay spacing and any clear span that cannot accept an interior column. Add design live load, collateral load, wind speed, wind exposure category, ground snow load and seismic design category when the project engineer has them. If those values are open, say so. A supplier should list the assumption rather than consider a generic building family approved.
Separate hot-rolled primary steel from cold-formed secondary members. Purlins and girts, flange braces, roof panels and wall panels can be included or excluded. Insulated metal panel, single-skin panel and a liner are different thermal paths. Ask for the stated R-value or U-value and the assembly it belongs to. Thermal transmittance of a roof panel alone is not the whole enclosure.
Door leaves, windows, canopies, mezzanines and crane beams are frequent omissions. Mark each as included, excluded, optional or buyer-supplied. Foundation design, anchor bolts, grout and the foundation interface should have an owner. Transport to the destination ZIP code, unloading and a crane lift plan are commercial lines, not footnotes.
Quantity can be one building or several identical sets. State the unit and whether a partial shipment is acceptable. Currency and a per-building or whole-order budget can be added in the form. That budget is a buyer target. It is not a market index and it is not a promise of a lower total.
Documents to request after a supplier is named include general arrangement drawings, reaction loads, a weld procedure aligned with AWS D1.1 where welding is in scope, and a statement of which code edition the calculations follow. IBC, ASCE 7 and AISC 360 are references to check against the project jurisdiction. They are not certificates held by this desk. IAS AC472 or ISO 9001, if offered, must name the plant and the system being quoted.
Compare answers on one matrix. Normalize dimensions, quantity, currency, delivery basis and scope before looking at the number. A shell kit and a turnkey building cannot share one price column. When an alternative changes steel grade, coating, span or responsibility, record the deviation and get the buyer to accept it before award. See how quotes are aligned or send the project requirements.
