ArcField Sourcing quote comparison for alternative steel buildings

ArcField Sourcing lines up alternative quotations so a chief buildings search can be turned into comparable factory offers. This desk does not claim authorized dealer status and does not sell that brand.

Each supplier is asked to price the same use, geometry, loads, quantity, destination and responsibility split. Missing lines stay visible. A lower unit figure that drops freight, anchor design or installation is not treated as the same purchase.

Normalize the frame package

Ask every respondent to list primary frame, secondary framing, purlins, girts, bracing, flange braces, roof panels and wall panels. Hot-rolled columns and rafters are not interchangeable with a cold-formed system just because the outside dimensions look similar. If a crane beam or mezzanine is required, it needs its own line, a stated design live load, and a bay spacing such as 25 ft rather than an assumed module.

Split enclosure from structure

Single-skin panel, liner and insulated metal panel change weight, thermal transmittance and fire discussion. Request the assembly R-value or U-value and the standard the supplier used. A color sample is useful only when the coating specification and the production plant are named with it.

Price the path to site

Destination ZIP code, access limits, unloading and a crane lift plan belong in the commercial comparison. Taxes, duties and installation either have amounts or are marked excluded. Partial shipments need a written acceptance. A budget can be per building or for the whole order, in a named currency, and it stays a buyer target.

Questions before a supplier is shortlisted

Scope

Which costs have to be separated?

Materials, engineering, freight, tax, duty, unloading, installation and optional doors should not be blended into one unexplained total. A shell number and an installed number answer different purchases.

What if the code edition is unknown?

Name the project location and the authority having jurisdiction, then ask the supplier to state the code edition assumed. IBC or IRC applicability is a project question. This desk does not certify compliance.

Evidence

Which papers follow the quote?

Request general arrangement, reactions, a material list and the coating specification for the panels offered. If welding is included, ask how AWS D1.1 is addressed for that work. A certificate must name the plant and the system.

Can two building methods share one price?

Only after transport envelope, site assembly and finish level are written. A volumetric module and a panelized or rigid-frame package move and install differently. Compare them as alternatives with visible differences, not as identical SKUs.

Start a comparable request

The note should let two factories answer the same building. Include use, dimensions, loads, jurisdiction, quantity, destination and the scope label you want priced.

  • Name exclusions instead of assuming they are free.
  • Keep a buyer budget optional and labeled per unit or whole order.
  • Interpret supplier preference as your cost and finish choice, not a rating.
  • Leave drawings for a follow-up if they are not ready today.
